| So you wanna be a rock star?
Wanna ride in Fred Durst's double stretch limousine to the MTV music awards? Wanna hang
out at all the "in places" all over the world with J-Lo? Better get on your
knees and pucker up in front of 666 5th Avenue (an actual record company address, kids!) Or do you want to get in the van, gig swap, and take
your music to the people instead of the suits? Do you want to get on a label on your own
terms? Or better yet, do you want to be self-sufficient, instead of signing what they give
you, to make the album they want?
If you've given it any thought, and if you
know which of these little scenarios is the real truth, you've come to the right place -
but you best be ready to work.
So why do we call ourselves Gold Record?
After all, a gold record is an industry talisman. We're sure that N'SYNC has enough gold
records to corner the market and there's no doubt that Velvet Underground never earned a
single one.
We called our company Gold Record Music,
tongue in cheek, because of a simple industry truth: THE MAJORS OWN YOUR SOUL, UNTIL YOU
GO GOLD. And in many cases, if you do not look like you'll go gold in two weeks, your
promotion is over, your advance is gone, and you owe back the money. Too bad, sucker!
No major label will make things happen for
you. You have to learn to make them happen for yourself. Major labels do not develop
artists any more. They circle like vultures waiting for you to develop yourself and then
skim your earnings.
Gold Record Music started out as a simple
idea - if you want to be an artist outside the NY, Nashville, LA music hubs, you are going
to need a little help. But if some of the greatest practitioners of rock-n-roll were a
truck driver from the deep south and four cats from a nowhere industrial town called
Liverpool, we see no reason why you should chase the suits to LA.
There are kids right here who want to hear
rock-n-roll. And bands should be able to play anywhere, for anyone, without having to lose
their identity in a rat race to cop the latest fad in LA. We can show you how to do it,
but it will take work on your part.
If you want to be a artist, you are going to
have to hit the road, and build yourself up. Gold Record Music is here to help anyone
serious about hitting the road. |
